What Is ISEE?

ISEE is the Independent School Entrance Examination and it's used for admission to private middle schools and high schools. If you're looking to attend an elite private middle or high school, this is a test you'll need to do well on. Three different levels of the test are offered depending on where you are in your education. The Upper Level is designed for applicants in grades 9 and above. The Middle Level is for applicants in grades 6 and 7, and the Lower Level is for applicants in grades 5 and 6.

We prepare our students for these tests on the basis of the determinaitons made by the National Council of  Teachers of Mathematics (
www.nctm.org). NCTM has identified 5 main areas for all high school students to master. We have identified several subgroups within each of the 5 areas and have developed specific exercises for students to perform.

Upper Level Math Assessment

 

This portion of the test assesses students' ability in the 5 areas defined by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (www.nctm.org). We will help you master these concepts by covering the following topics: 

  1. Numbers and Measurments.
    - Order of Operations
    - Fractions, Decimals, Percents, and Proportions
    - Integers and their Operations
    - Perimeter, Area, and Volume of Basic Geometric Shapes
    - Equations and Expressions
  2. Algebraic Symbols
    - Graphs of Linear and Non Linear Functions
    - Solving Linear and Non Linear Equations 
    - Solving Systems of Equations
    - Exponents and Logarithms
    - Simplifying Algebraic Expressions
    - Factoring
    - Roots and Radicals
  3. Functions
    - Higher Order Functions and their Operations
    - Domain and Range of Reference Functions
    - Composite Functions
    - Solving Higer Degree Equations
    - Matrices and their Operations
    - Polynomials and their Properties
    - Inequalities
  4. Geometry
    - Parallel Lines and their Properties
    - Polygons and their Properties
    - Rigid and Non Rigid Transformations
    - Congruence Postulates
    - Similarity Theorems
  5. Statistics and Probaility
    - Means, Medians, and Modes
    - Variance and Standard Deviatio

    - Normal Distribution
    - Odds and Probability
    - Infrences about Means and Proportions
    - Hypothesis Testing
